Greetings Decision maker
,

“It’s not going away, and we have to face that reality.” That’s what the CEO and founder of a high-tech manufacturing startup with 180 employees told the leadership team in early July to convince them of the need to do a strategic pivot to address COVID.

Previously, the startup’s executives treated the pandemic as a day-to-day issue. They took things one step at a time, putting out the various fires that flared up: disruptions to its supply chain; cancelled orders by clients; marketing generating fewer and fewer leads; salespeople failing to meet quotas; plummeting employee morale and quickly-growing burnout.

Seeing more of the broad picture, the CEO realized the company was going in the wrong direction. One of the members of the Board recommended my recently-published book on strategic pivoting to adapt to COVID and plan for the post-pandemic recovery. After a quick read, the CEO recognized the need for a serious re-evaluation of the company’s current business model.

Recent Public Appearances

You might find of interest a number of recent public appearances about my three recent best-selling books:

What's Up With Me

Brrr! The polar vortex brought some seriously cold weather here to Columbus, Ohio. We had over three weeks of sub-freezing temperatures. Snow has fallen and stuck around, making it hard to walk and dangerous to drive; by contrast, most other winters any snowfall melts within a couple of days. Yet my wife (and business partner) Agnes and I have been taking a walk nearly every day (with the exception of a couple of days when we had icy rain).

We both know the research on how it’s very important for mental health to be outside and also to do exercise. Walks combine both of these beneficial activities into one very beneficial activity, for our mental health and physical health alike. It’s especially important to walk outside during the pandemic, when we have many fewer opportunities to improve our mental and physical health than before. So we try very hard to go walking no matter the weather and enjoy nature’s beauty. That’s especially so when we get to see beautiful wintry landscapes, such as this photo I took to share with you.

Recommendations for You

For the sake of your mental health, as well as physical health, please consider a habit of taking a walk for at least 30 minutes most days a week (if you don't do so already). Remember, it’s not only about protecting yourself from mental (and physical) health challenges. It’s also about improving your mental health from its current base state and thus improving your mental fitness. Walking, I’m betting, will lift your mood and provide extra motivation and drive to not only help you survive, but even thrive, during the pandemic (and beyond).
