Greetings Decision maker
,

Have you wondered how to foster remote and hybrid diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in the workplace? Many companies have approached me for consultation regarding the development and implementation of their strategy for returning to the office and establishing permanent work arrangements for the future of work. In my interviews with dozens of mid-level, and senior leaders at many of these organizations, I found that the issue of diversity and inclusion came up time and time again.

Indeed, diversity, equity, and inclusion are significant concerns for many organizations in the aftermath of the global pandemic. The pandemic has brought about new concerns over proximity bias as it has divided the employees into two categories: office-centric and mostly or fully remote. So what can you do to address DEI effectively in our brave new world?

Dr. Gleb came and spoke at three of my Vistage groups. The presentation was engaging. What it did was make people think differently. As we're approaching the unknown economic environment - the war in Ukraine, all of the issues with respect to the economy, supply chain issues, inflation - members have to think differently as they approach their business every day. This presentation gave us a template to look at things differently so that we could produce better businesses and better results for our organizations. I believe my members loved the presentation.

What's Up With Me

How confident are you that you’ll still be in your current house next year? What about in two years? Five years? Ten years?

Research suggests we tend to be overconfident that we’ll stay in the same house. Americans move on average more than 11 times in their lifetime, and often end up making a poor investment when they buy a house. As a rule of thumb, it’s not worth buying a house if you will live in it for less than five years.

I was reminded of this research finding when talking to a good friend about his future plans. He really wants to buy a house and feels good about his current job prospects in the area where he lives. However, he knows that our intuition is often deceptive, so he is waiting to buy a house until he has more certainty about his job situation.

So it’s wise to be somewhat conservative when making major purchases such as a house. Our intuitions often lead us astray.
