Greetings Decision maker,
In recent years, the debate over remote work has intensified, particularly within the federal government. With more than a year of pressure from Congress to decrease telework among federal employees, the release of the latest Office of Management and Budget (OMB) report provides critical insights that challenge this pressure. The OMB report shows that, contrary to Congressional concerns, federal agencies are exceeding the administration’s 50% in-the-office goal for telework-eligible employees. In fact, government-wide, roughly 61% of the work hours that telework-eligible federal employees perform have been in person. This data indicates that the current push to reduce telework is unwarranted and potentially counterproductive.

“For several months now, I've had the opportunity to work with Dr Gleb, and I've been thoroughly impressed with all of the articles that he has submitted to The TASA Group’s Knowledge Center. From those articles, I've asked him to present a webinar for us. Dr. Gleb presented a webinar called “Addressing Bias in Legal Cases Using Behavioral Science.” The webinar was amazing, he got rave reviews from the 197 attorneys that attended that presentation. I know that the takeaway for his presentation was amazing, the attorneys wrote in to me and they were telling me that it was such a great presentation. So if you're interested in having Dr Gleb help you with work from home strategies or like our webinar addressing bias in legal cases, definitely definitely definitely reach out to him. Dr Gleb is amazing, he knows his stuff, and very professional. Thank you Dr. Gleb for all of your help, all of your knowledge, and for being willing to send in those articles and present that webinar.”

Speaking of federal remote work, we now have a new administration in the US that’s dead-set against remote work for the feds. For me, that’s sad to see. As a US taxpayer, I know that my money will be wasted, per the evidence in the article/video/podcast above. Namely, I’ll be paying for unnecessary federal office space, while getting less productivity out of federal employees. Moreover, due to the drop in morale, the most talented staff will be looking for new jobs, leaving less-desirable employees behind, worsening the quality of the workforce. And as an expert in flexible work, I hate to see our government failing to use data-driven approaches to making decisions. Finally, having served as an expert witness on a number of remote work cases, I anticipate that the government will be wasting significant money on legal fees in lawsuits by federal employee unions and individual employees around ADA accommodations. None of this has to happen, and it’s frustrating to see flexible work become a politicized rather than data-driven issue.
