Greetings Decision Maker,

AI adoption looks widespread until you examine how often people actually use it and where it has changed the work. A new international survey of nearly 6,000 senior executives finds that about 70% of firms report using AI, yet executives average only 1.5 hours of use per week, and one in four report none at all. At the same time, leaders expect major productivity gains and slower hiring in the next three years. This week’s article examines the gap between adoption headlines and operating reality and what leaders must measure, redesign, and communicate before those expectations can translate into results.

What's Up With Me

I am staying in a fancy hotel on the beach in Florida where the leadership of an insurance company invited me to facilitate a half-day morning workshop on AI adoption, and I have to say I’m disappointed. I was pretty shocked to discover the hotel room had no desk! I arrived here in the early afternoon of the previous day as I usually do to address the possibility of flight delays, and to get sufficient sleep to be fresh for the workshop, so I had half a day to do work in the hotel room. I had to make do with a pretty awkward “desk” made up of a cabinet. At least I was able to move it to where I can have a nice view of the ocean!
