Disaster Avoidance Experts

Greetings Decision maker,

Whether you’re an advocate of full-time in-office work or complete flexibility, we can all agree that decreasing employee engagement is a profit killer. A recent survey by McKinsey reveals the staggering cost of disengagement. A mid-size S&P 500 company risks losing between $228 million and $355 million annually due to low engagement. Over a span of five years, this sums up to a potential loss of $1.1 billion per company.

The forced RTO mandates in recent months have been a key driver of worker disengagement. Gallup research shows that employees who work exclusively remote or hybrid both have 37% engagement, compared to those who work exclusively on-site, of whom 29% are engaged.

For both McKinsey and Gallup, the data shows that the recent forced RTO mandates and its accompanying inflexibility drive down worker engagement. No wonder that so many companies have come to regret top-down RTO.

Testimonial for Dr. Gleb Tsipursky for Institute of Internal Auditors Kansas City Chapter Talk

“It was a pleasure working with Dr. Gleb. I hired Dr. Gleb to speak to our local Institute of Internal Auditors chapter here in the Kansas City metro area. His presentation was engaging, informative, and I've received great feedback from our members thus far. It's been a pleasure working with Dr. Gleb. His extensive preparation, and his ability to communicate effectively, really, really paid off for the chapter and for the work that we've engaged him to do. So I really cannot recommend working with Dr. Gleb enough.”

What's Up With Me

Before I moved to Ohio, I never heard about pawpaws. These fruits, native to eastern United States and southern Ontario, have a custard-like consistency, with a flavor profile of a banana mixed with a mango. Without knowing what they tasted like, Agnes and I decided to plant three pawpaw trees near our house. We hardly got any fruit at first, until we learned that we need to hand-pollinate them, because the natural pollinators of these trees are beetles and flies, which are surprisingly inefficient pollinators. As we started seeing more fruit grow, squirrels were getting most of the fruit before it became ripe enough to eat. We learned to check the trees every day, but we still ended up with only about a dozen ripe pawpaws per growing season. We also learned to spray the fruit with organic chemicals to protect against caterpillar infestations. Finally, this year, we covered the young pawpaw fruit with fruit bags. Now, even though squirrels still damage some of the fruit, we’re getting the large majority. It’s been a long journey, but a worthwhile one. Yesterday, I gathered over 20 ripe pawpaw fruits in one day, and we still have more coming. It’s delightful to see the literal fruits of our labor in abundance, after all this time and effort. It’s a good lesson that it often takes several iterations over many years to fix problems and challenges in how we do things, with fixes uncovering new problems and requiring new interventions. Still, the effort might well prove worth it in the end.
