Greetings Decision maker
,

They say remote and hybrid work is bad for employee mental well-being and leads to a sense of social isolation, meaninglessness, and lack of work/life boundaries, so we should just all go back to office-centric work – or so claim many traditionalist business leaders and gurus. For example, Malcolm Gladwell said that there is a "core psychological truth, which is we want you to have a feeling of belonging and to feel necessary… I know it’s a hassle to come into the office, but if you’re just sitting in your pajamas in your bedroom, is that the work life you want to live?"

The trouble with such statements by traditionalist business leaders and gurus stems from a sneaky misdirection. They decry the negative impact of remote and hybrid work for wellbeing, yet they gloss over the damage to wellbeing caused by the alternative, namely office-centric work.

"Dr. Gleb's presentation was outstanding! Our association hired him to present a one-hour implicit bias training for our members, and he was able to customize the material so it was relevant to all of our attendees. He was very easy to work with and very responsive to all of our emails. He was also very engaging during the webinar, and he used polls and personal stories to make sure our attendees were paying attention and engaging in the material. I would highly recommend him for any future speaking opportunities!"

What's Up With Me

Writing to you from my trip to California. My wife and I planned this two-week trip over six months ago, when I was invited to give several presentations in central and southern California. We figured it would be a nice break from cold, snowy Columbus to go to California. Ironically, it was 70 degrees when we were leaving Columbus, and about 40 in Fresno. It also snowed over 15 feet in some parts of Sequoia National Park, which was a major destination for us. Global climate change is making things less and less predictable and requiring more decision-making in conditions of uncertainty. Who knows what the weather will be like next year? I’ll be keeping my options more open and flexible around winter travel, that’s for sure.

Here is a photo of a beautiful double rainbow that we saw shortly after a hailstorm in Visalia, California.
