Greetings Decision maker,
In the early months of 2025, the debate over the future of remote work is more charged than ever. Will the coming year spell the end for remote jobs, as organizations and governments push for a return to in-person work? While some sectors may see a reduction in fully remote roles, the narrative of remote work’s demise is misleading. Instead, 2025 will mark an evolution where hybrid models dominate, government policies diverge across countries, and organizations embracing technology and training will thrive.

I just returned from giving a talk for a Vistage peer executive group, and I heard a great story that illustrates exactly why remote work won’t die in 2025. The leader of a major insurance company that offers flexibility for their employees described how their competitor announced an RTO recently. This more flexible company took advantage of that announcement to target the employees of that company with recruitment offers and poached great talent, enabling them to operate more efficiently. This story exemplifies why remote work won’t die: smart companies will take advantage of any RTO announcements to poach talent. The company with worse talent will underperform and lose market share, and vice versa. Over time, more market share will flow to flexibility, but it will take a while to shake out, unfortunately. Still, the future is flexible. |
