Greetings Decision Maker,
On a quarterly spend report, $10,000 that used to flow to a freelancer marketplace now shows up as a few hundred dollars of model usage tied to an expense platform dataset and a handful of vendor names that every CFO now recognizes. The shift looks small in a chart until you translate it into unit economics. Then it feels like a pricing shock that lands in the middle of knowledge work.
Among the most exposed firms, each $1 decline in online labor marketplace spending lines up with about $0.03 of additional spending on AI model providers by Q3 2025, which implies roughly 20–25x cost savings when firms swap outsourced task labor for model usage. That single number deserves more attention than any headline about prompts replacing jobs because it captures the real mechanism that drives adoption inside companies: unit cost.

What's Up With Me
How much is too much to spend on a concert? I thought about this recently when my wife and business partner Agnes, who’s a big fan of Twenty One Pilots, suggested that we go to their upcoming concert in our (and their) hometown, Columbus, Ohio. One part of the question is the difference between my enthusiasm and her own. She’s the bigger fan of their music, and I’m only a casual fan, but we have to make the decision jointly. So I decided to consider what would be the maximum price I would be willing to pay to see a band of which I’m a huge fan, like U2. That provided some clarity, but not that much. In part, that's because I typically go to local events costing $20-50, not stadium concerts featuring big stars. Let's face it, Twenty One Pilots put on an amazing show, but they don’t have the fan following of a U2 or a Taylor Swift. The last time we went to see a major musical artists live was U2 back in 2009, and I was mentally anchored to how much we paid for those two tickets: $130 for general admission (and we got to stand close to the stage). I had to really de-anchor myself by looking at current ticket prices and recognizing that even nosebleed seats would cost much more than that. It was hard to accept the impact of inflation on ticket prices. So eventually we settled on a cap, and she bought nosebleed tickets significantly below that cap, mainly because nothing was available that was much better and below our cap. Still, it was quite a bit higher than the tickets for standing room by the stage for a bigger band in 2009. It will have to be my new anchor going forward. |
