Greetings Decision maker,
The advent of remote work has revolutionized the corporate world, yet it brings with it a set of unique challenges, particularly in the delicate process of employee layoffs. As an advisor who has guided 21 companies through the transition to hybrid and remote work, I have seen how essential it is to consider every stage of an employee's journey, from their first day to their last. This week’s blog is a deep dive into the intricacies of conducting layoffs in a remote work setting, including using empathy, navigating legal requirements, handling return of company equipment, and nuances of assessing performance.

"Your presentation made all of my group members really understand their own biases as they make decisions. Bringing those unknown biases to the forefront was very helpful for them. And the card you left them with, they're still carrying that card around, and they really like it. Obviously no one wants to make a disastrous decision, but most of the people in those rooms have made disastrous decisions in the past. And I think you've helped them recognize when they're going into a tough situation. … it generated an enormous amount of conversation afterward, which is helpful because that's what they're there for.

Recommendation For You
Want to know what will happen when AI starts taking over? My close friend Max Harms (yes, that's his real name) is a researcher in AI safety at the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, and a science fiction author. He wrote an excellent sci-fi series, the Crystal Trilogy, about such a takeover scenario, written from the perspective of the AI itself. He recently released a free audiobook of the first book of the trilogy, which I strongly recommend. You've never read anything like it! You can read or listen here.
