Greetings Decision Maker,

Later today I'll be playing pickleball with a friend who's in his late fifties (I'm 44), and that reminded me of the story of how I switched from playing tennis to pickleball. This friend and I used to play tennis together for many years. However, he became increasingly worried about a potential injury and decided he wanted to stop playing to preserve his health. I responded by suggesting that instead of not playing at all, we could try pickleball: it has a lower injury risk than tennis, while still being fun and providing a great workout. People play it into their 80s and even later! The friend agreed to try it, and about two years ago we switched and never looked back. I even got my other younger friends to switch to pickleball, since tennis does carry increased injury risk. The key lesson I learned is that there are many ways to solve a problem: rather than a black-or-white approach of playing tennis or not playing tennis, it's better to look around for a win-win solution that solves the problem. |
