What's Up With Me
One of the more difficult aspects of the COVID pandemic for me was the inability to see my parents. I live in Columbus, Ohio, and
they live in New York City, over 500 miles away. Well, now that we are all vaccinated, we finally saw each other in person. It was a wonderful experience and one more sign of the transition away from the pandemic.
Seeing them enabled me finally to have a conversation with them I’ve wanted to have for a long time, but also dreaded: learning about their end-of-life decisions. It’s an awkward topic for a son to bring up to his parents, as I didn’t know how they would respond. Still, given that my dad was pretty sick with COVID, I decided it was time to force the issue. Fortunately, the conversation went well. I now know more about what my parents want and have more clarity. While an unpleasant topic, it was important to have that talk.
Here is a photo of me with my parents during their visit.
