Greetings Decision maker,
“These People Who Work From Home Have a Secret: They Have Two Jobs,” screams a headline from The Wall Street Journal. The Guardian writes that “‘It’s the Biggest Open Secret Out There’: The Double Lives of White-Collar Workers With Two Jobs.” And according to Bloomberg, “Many Remote Workers Secretly Juggle Two Full-Time Jobs—or More.”
These types of articles play on our narrative fallacy, a dangerous mental blindspot that causes us to understand the world through stories, rather than facts. Sure, stories can be useful illustrations of broader data points. But the danger stems from stories that speak to our feelings and intuitions, without regard for the actual evidence.
So what does the data say about the number of people who hold multiple jobs?

"Dr. Gleb Tsipursky presented 'Seizing Leadership in Hybrid and Remote Work via Cognitive Science for IT and Auditing Professionals' to members of the Northwest Ohio Chapters of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and Institute of
Internal Auditors (IIA). Represented were senior executive leaders and practitioners from throughout the region. The audience was very appreciative of the informative content and inspired by Dr. Gleb’s engaging and dynamic speaking style. Everyone benefited from the real-life, useful 'takeaways' that they could implement into their own work life right away. The feedback was universally positive with many people commenting that they had received tremendous value in return for their time in attending the three-hour program. There have been several requests that Dr. Gleb be invited back again soon."

What's Up With Me
The recent plagiarism scandal surrounding the ouster of the President of Harvard University and all its attendant consequences inspired me to consider all the unexpected ways that Generative AI will be impacting our lives. Sure, it will be much easier to discover plagiarism, even the kind of plagiarism due to inattention rather than deliberate stealing - stuff that it was easy for academics, and writers of all sort, to get away with previously. And yes, it makes me personally glad that I am highly diligent and ethical in my citations when I rely on other people’s work. But how harshly should others be punished when they committed plagiarism under the old regime, relying on the norms and capacities in play at the time? Perhaps some writers were taught bad
habits by their teachers, who cut corners themselves. Certainly, if you’re in the role of President of a major institution, you should be squeaky clean. But what about the average academic - or the average writer more broadly? How many book authors, journalists, and bloggers follow best practices for citations? Should we really come down on them like a ton of bricks? It’s a tricky issue, and I don’t know the right answer…
