Greetings Decision Maker,
The future of your business hinges on your ability to embrace and effectively utilize Generative AI (Gen AI). To do so requires fostering an innovative culture of experimentation with this powerful technology. Yet it’s not simply a matter of encouraging your employees, but about making concrete investments in time, tools, and support to overcome challenges and manage risks effectively. Without these crucial resources, even the most enthusiastic teams will struggle to unlock Gen AI’s transformative potential. It’s akin to giving a master chef the finest ingredients but no kitchen – the potential is there, but the means to realize it are absent.

“While actuaries are considered experts at the data-based approach to insurance and risk problems, Dr. Gleb’s presentation was a good reality check that we always need to challenge our assumptions that we set due to our internal biases that play into setting those assumptions. He brilliantly laid out how we need to think differently about setting those assumptions to better manage risks in the post-pandemic world. The presentation was entertaining and interactive to draw the audience in to understand how our cognitive biases impact our assessment of risk and how we can guard against
those using some of the techniques he reviewed with us during the speech. Dr. Gleb was great to work with from initially setting up the presentation up until the day of the speech. He was a unique presentation that added to the day we had planned for continuing education and was able to customize his expertise to our needs. I would strongly recommend him for any other organization that wants to challenge their status quo to think better about managing risks.”

How do you manage AI risks and avoid a global AI arms race? My very good friend Max Harms (yes, that's his real name) wrote a new sci-fi book, Red Heart, to illuminate these complex issues in an engaging yet realistic manner. Max is an AI safety and alignment researcher at the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, an acclaimed hard sci-fi author, and the creator of the
CAST system of AI alignment. In Red Heart, a top-secret Chinese lab hosts an AI smarter and more capable than any human, but the fate of this perfect mind lies within the hands of Chen Bai—a human just as flawed as the rest of his species. Enjoy this fast-paced sci-fi thriller while also absorbing Max’s unique technical and geopolitical insight.

Each and every one of my speaking contracts includes a clause that, in the highly unlikely event I’m unable to deliver the talk, my wife and business partner, Agnes Vishnevkin, will step in and give the presentation. This situation arises very rarely, but including the clause gives me an extra level of confidence when taking on commitments, knowing I can rely on her to deliver if needed.
Last month, this very scenario occurred. I had to travel for a client project on short notice, and Agnes stepped in to present a webinar I had been scheduled to deliver. I prepared the slides for her, shared a recording of a similar session I’d done, and conducted a quick tech check. On the day of the webinar, she did an excellent job, and received very positive feedback from both the client and attendees. It was a great reminder that having a trusted collaborator makes our work more resilient—and a lot more enjoyable.
