What's Up With Me
It’s tempting to doom scroll through news headlines about Ukraine, especially due to my personal heritage and background. However, with the great news that the Russian army has retreated from Kyiv, I can now rest more easily about my extended family members living there, although we still haven’t heard from them. Excessive doom scrolling is not good for mental health, so I am making sure to take more time for self-care, such as doing some gardening. I’ve been growing seedlings to prepare for the summer season, including different varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. Excited to put them into the ground at the end of April, when the weather gets warm enough for them.
Gardening is a very fulfilling hobby for me, because it combines improving my health through physical labor with my desire for a tangible product - veggies and fruit. It also provides an outlet for my creativity different from the consulting, writing, and training I usually do. Finally, since I do it together with my wife - and business partner - Agnes Vishnevkin, it even helps strengthen our relationship. In fact, I even took up growing herbs indoors in my office during the pandemic; it helped manage my mental well-being in this stressful period through expanding what I already know works well for my personality. And Agnes certainly enjoys the outcomes of my herb garden!
