Hybrid and, to a lesser extent, fully-remote work will be the norm post-pandemic. If organizations to make this new permanent mode of collaboration work, they need to adapt their culture for the
new normal.
Culture refers to that social and emotional glue that bonds employees together into a community of belonging, motivates employees, and protects against burnout. In the emergency of the March COVID lockdowns, companies transposed their office culture-style of collaboration to remote work. That’s like forcing a square peg into a round hole. You can do it if you push hard enough, but you will break off the corners. No wonder so many suffered from work-from-home burnout and Zoom fatigue and felt increasingly disconnected from their employers.
Going forward, organizations will need to
strategically pivot their corporate culture if they want to survive and thrive in the world of virtual collaboration after the pandemic.

I didn't know what to do about returning to the office. On the one hand, the large majority of my employees wanted to work from home and only come to the office when needed. On the other hand, my
peer executives from other companies were telling me that I needed to return everyone back to the office at least a few days a week for the sake of effective collaboration, innovation, and company culture. What's Up With Me Are you worried about your personal impact on the environment? I am, especially after reading about the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report. As an American citizen, I have an outsized impact on the environment compared to the global average. While I do many things to ameliorate my impact, such as composting, using an electric lawn mower and other electric equipment, I recognize that enjoying a productive work
environment and reasonably comfortable household leads me to produce a lot of carbon.
It’s easy to feel guilty about it, and/or try to do more things to reduce the impact. Yet if I do more, it would start significantly impacting my quality of life and/or productivity. And I don’t want to feel guilty :-) One way to not feel guilty is to buy carbon offsets. Yet there are lots of questions about their effectiveness. Instead, what I do is support environmentally-oriented nonprofits, with my money and/or time. For examples of time: I give a discount on trainings to the World Wildlife Fund and other nonprofits, and write articles encouraging pro-environmental outcomes.
