Greetings Decision Maker,
A new peer-reviewed study in Management Science reframes the AI adoption question: it's not whether the model is good enough, but whether the worker knows when it’s not. Researchers tested 732 participants on a judgment task with and without an AI confidence score, finding that AI improved average accuracy and helped lower-ability participants most. But the decisive variable was calibration: people who accurately understood their own limits captured far more value from the tool. With real human behavior, AI reduced performance inequality substantially; with perfect calibration, that reduction would have been nearly twice as large. This matters because most organizations still treat AI adoption as a technology rollout rather than a behavioral one, benchmarking models and building workflows while assuming employees will naturally learn when to trust the system. Leaders should prioritize training people to judge their own uncertainty, not just deploying better tools.

What's Up With Me
It’s a sad time right now. Our beloved cat, Siren, has declined significantly over the past few weeks. She’s been with us for 16 years and has brought us a lot of joy during this time, but it looks like it’s time to let go. She has been eating and drinking very little, has lost a great deal of weight, and is now walking slowly and with increasing difficulty. She still moves between a few familiar resting places, but we are concerned that she may be in pain and that her condition will continue to worsen further. We are now considering humane euthanasia because we do not want to prolong her suffering through aggressive treatment that may only extend her life briefly without restoring her comfort.
