Greetings Decision maker,

The age of traditional offices as the sole work setting is long gone, and a new era of hybrid and remote work is here to stay. However, managers are faltering in this new landscape, primarily when it comes to communication. According to a recent report by FlexOS, employees gave their managers a mediocre 7 out of 10 – in other words, a C – on effectively managing hybrid and remote teams. Worse, 30% are frustrated by unclear communication from their bosses. Moreover, according to a survey by Fishbowl, just half of all professionals understand their company’s hybrid work plan, indicating very poor communication about this critical topic.

These aren’t just data points; they’re a resounding call to action. So, how can managers be excellent communicators in this novel work environment?

“While actuaries are considered experts at the data-based approach to insurance and risk problems, Dr. Gleb’s presentation was a good reality check that we always need to challenge our assumptions due to our internal biases. He brilliantly laid out how we need to think differently about setting those assumptions to better manage risks in the post-pandemic world. The presentation was entertaining and interactive to draw the audience in to understand how our cognitive biases impact our assessment of risk and how we can guard against those using some of the techniques he reviewed with us during the speech. Dr. Gleb was great to work with from initially setting up the presentation up until the day of the speech. His was a unique presentation that added to the day we had planned for continuing education and he was able to customize his expertise to our needs. I would strongly recommend him for any other organization that wants to challenge their status quo to think better about managing risks.”

What's Up With Me

Have you gotten into the Olympic spirit? I have, and it has been an exciting experience watching and cheering for Team USA. And as I switched between different channels and networks, I noticed something interesting. While on most topics, the pundits on different channels often disagree - loudly - they all seemed to agree on rooting for Team USA. So at least there’s one thing that brings Americans together. Too bad it only happens every two years! Is there anything we can do to make such togetherness a more regular occasion? What do you think?
